As Earth Day 2025 approaches, we at Aransas First Land Trust are reminded of the precious natural heritage that makes our corner of Texas so special. The Live Oak Peninsula, with its windswept oaks framing spectacular bird migrations, pristine beaches meeting bountiful bays, and thriving natural beauty, stands as a coastal treasure unlike any other.
But these natural wonders face increasing pressure from development and environmental changes. That’s why we’re launching our Earth Day fundraising campaign with an ambitious goal of $25,000 to protect and preserve critical habitat throughout Aransas County.
Why Aransas County Matters
Our region serves as a vital ecological crossroads. Each year, the endangered whooping crane makes its remarkable journey to our wetlands. Countless shorebirds depend on our beaches and tidal flats during migration. Native wildlife from bobcats to diamondback terrapins find refuge in our remaining natural spaces.
Beyond wildlife, these ecosystems provide natural barriers against storms, filter our water, and create the stunning landscapes that define our community’s character and draw visitors from around the world.
Our Promise to You
At Aransas First Land Trust, we believe in transparent stewardship. Every dollar raised goes directly toward:
- Acquiring and protecting sensitive habitats from development
- Maintaining public access to natural areas where appropriate
- Restoring damaged ecosystems to their natural state
- Creating conservation easements with willing landowners
- Educating our community about the importance of preservation
The Magic Worth Saving
Picture standing beneath the ancient branches of live oaks draped with Spanish moss as the sun sets over Copano Bay. Imagine watching a roseate spoonbill sweep across the marsh in a flash of pink, or discovering your child’s wonder at finding a perfect shell along an undeveloped stretch of shoreline.
These experiences aren’t guaranteed for future generations unless we act today.
How You Can Help
Your contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference in our mission. A donation of $50 helps maintain hiking trails, $100 supports our educational programs, and $500 contributes directly to land acquisition funds.
By reaching our $25,000 goal, we can protect approximately 5 additional acres of critical habitat—land that might otherwise be lost forever.
